We all do celebrate holi very well.
What we knew about holi?:
- The word holi originates from holika
- Holika is sister of Hiranyakashipu
- Hiranyakashipu is a demon king. He demanded every one to worship only him and would be very cruel to any one who doesnt obey him
- Later on he got a son named prahlada
- Prahlada was devote of lord vishnu
- This made Hiranyakashupu very anger.
- Then he subjected his son prahlada to cruel punishments
- But none of them had an influence over prahlada
- Finally Holika(sister of Hiranyakashipu) tricked him for sitting on fire with her
- However, with this sinful act against Lord Narayana's devotee, Holika's boon ended and she was burnt to ashes, while Prahlad came out safe.
- From that day onwards Holi is celebrated as the festival of the victory of good over evil. Even today, bonfires are lit on the night before Holi in memory of the event and burning of the evil Holika. It symbolizes the victory of Good over evil.
